Spring Forward With These 5 Spring Cleaning Tips

Back To Blog

After a long, ruthless delay, spring has finally arrived and we can officially put away our parkas! If you’re anything like us, you’ve finally found that motivation to clean your apartment.

We know it’s not the most fun task (yes, we’d much rather be sipping a beer on a pretty rooftop) but it’s more or less an inherent part of the season. We’ve come up with 5 tips to help you tackle your spring-cleaning, so you can get back to that rooftop as soon as possible!

  1. Hold yourself accountable

Instead of making empty promises that you’re going to clean “tomorrow”, dedicate one day and stick to it! Write it down on your planner or calendar so you don’t forget and can’t make any excuses.

  1. Make a checklist

Cleaning can be a daunting task, especially if you’ve been avoiding it all winter like we have. Make a list of everything you want to clean and prioritize it so you knock out the big things first. Stuck on what to clean? We found some awesome pre-made lists on Pinterest you can find here, here and here.

  1. Everything in moderation

Don’t try and do all the chores on your list in one day, especially if you’ve included some big projects. Spread them out throughout the weekend, or even a week or two, so you don’t overwhelm yourself.

  1. Recruit your roommates

If you have a roommate, make sure they help! This shouldn’t be a one-man job if multiple people occupy your home. It’ll diminish some stress and expedite the process.

  1. Make it fun

Very few people find cleaning synonymous with fun (we salute those of you who do!) but there are some ways to make it more fun. Open the windows to let in the sunshine, blast a happy playlist or take before and after pictures to document your progress. If you’re feeling extra wild, the House Method created a spring cleaning drinking game – but clean at your own risk!
